Michael Byington, CPEA

Michael has worked with large corporations in a wide variety of industries, such as ExxonMobil Corporate Aviation and Pilgrim’s Corporation, and several state and federal agencies, like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC).  The impact of his experience and expertise has spanned over 30 years in the following areas:

 

 

  • Environmental regulatory compliance
  • Project management and permitting in conjunction with waste, water, and air.
  • Environmental compliance audits
  • Combining environmental health and safety initiatives and practices in a merger or acquisition

Serving as the founder and principal consultant of the Byington Group, Michael and Byington Group members have worked with corporate and civic organizations  in 44 states, 3 Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Texas A&M University in 1977, where he also pursued Master of Business Administration graduate studies.  He is a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA), with previous certifications consisting of Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), Visible Emissions Evaluation Certification, and Certified Asbestos Inspector.  Mr. Byington is a member of the Auditing Roundtable (Co-chairman, South Central Region) and holds a Level 5 Federal Security Clearance and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance.

Sheri Larson, Texas PG-Certified HUB/MWBE

Sheri is a licensed Professional Geologist and principal consultant with Parker Leigh Environmental, LLC . She contributes 25 years of geoscience experience, field work, and project management as an exploration geologist and environmental consultant to The Byington Group’s projects. Her expertise ranges from Phase I ESAs, compliance audits, surface and subsurface investigation, and soil and groundwater remediation and removal actions at UST, Dry Cleaner, VCP and Superfund Sites.

She has considerable experience with the USEPA, TCEQ, and LDEQ, and currently participates in the TCEQ Small Business and Local Government Assistance Program as an EnviroMentor, helping small businesses and local governments comply with state environmental regulations.

Rick Waggoner, CPEA and Paige Muchmore, CPEA

Rick and Paige collectively have over 40 years of experience involving:

  • air quality (Acid Rain, Title V, Cross-State Air Pollution Rule)
  • water quality
  • industrial and hazardous waste management
  • emergency planning, emergency response, and pollution prevention plan development
  • due diligence, and auditing.

Their firm, Compliance Opportunities Group, L.L.C., provides turnkey environmental compliance management for the fossil fuel electric power generating industry.

Rick holds a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Biology, is a member of The Auditing Roundtable, and worked previously in the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) and Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC). Paige holds the degrees of Master of Science in Environmental Science and Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Gary Barton, RAB Certified EMS Lead Auditor, CHMM, R.S.

Gary’s experience contributes to The Byington Group projects in the following areas:

  • EHS management systems assessments and audits
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems registration audits
  • environmental due diligence for corporate mergers and acquisitions
  • environmental compliance audits
  • environmental liability risk assessments
  • verification/attestation of corporate environmental reports
  • greenhouse gas (GHG) verification audits
  • environmental insurance claims investigations
  • financial statement audit support

In his 35 years of environmental management, Gary has held positions as Senior Client Manager at two ISO Registrar Organizations (BSI and KPMG ISO Practice), Senior Manager with KPMG Environmental Practice, Environmental Manager at both AIG and Continental Insurance companies, and an environmental specialist at the Texas Department of Water Resources.

Tony Webb

Performs safety and health compliance in the poultry industry, having worked in multiple feed mills, processing facilities, distribution centers, and hatcheries. He addresses the human element, successfully implementing the DuPont Safety Management System where he trains and coaches employees on observed work habits, evaluates injury trends, and develops action plans to address injury reduction opportunities identified in daily, weekly and monthly audits, and supports efforts to ensure compliance with corporate safety program expectations and applicable Federal and state law.

 Tony participates in joint EHS audits in a variety of other industries.
